You may well have old or unused graphics card drivers on your PC that you did not realise were there. These old and redundant drivers can cause conflicts resulting in you graphics card not performing properly and even slowing your system down. To check to see if you have any old drivers still installed navigate to the following:
Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager
Once in Device manager, click on View, then click on show hidden devices.
By enabling "show hidden devices" you will now be able to see if you have any old graphics card drivers still installed. Any old graphics card drivers will now show under either Display Adapters or System Devices and they will be a light gray colour. If you do have any listed simply right click on the driver in the list and select:
Properties > Driver > Driver Details
Make a quick note of any drivers listed and there location so you can check they removed properly later. Once you have noted the names and locations, select uninstall. Once the drivers have been uninstalled, navigate to the locations you noted down and check they are no longer there, if any are still showing just delete them.
Reboot your PC remembering to go into Safe Mode again, if Microsoft Windows XP says new hardware found do not let it install drivers.
(Note: I recommend you run Detonator RIP and then the Registry Cleaner that comes with Tune up Utilities 2006 now if you have them, if not then just carry on with the next step)
